Food as Medicine — Day 5: Cinnamon, The Sweet Fire

Hello My Beautiful Wildings

Welcome to Day 5 of our Food as Medicine series. Today’s herb (well, spice!) is one many of us already know and love, it’s warm, sweet, and comforting… like a soft blanket wrapped around your nervous system.

Cinnamon is more than just a baking spice, it’s a powerful herbal ally for warmth, circulation, and balance.

Herb or Spice of the Day – Cinnamon

Cinnamon has a long history of use in both traditional medicine and everyday cooking. Its warming quality helps to stimulate circulation, balance blood sugar, and gently support the digestive system.

Key Benefits:
  • Physical: Warming, circulatory stimulant, supports balanced blood sugar, eases digestive discomfort.

  • Emotional/Mental: Comforting, grounding, gently uplifting.

  • Energetic: Connected to the root and sacral chakras, bringing warmth, safety, and creativity.

Wild Queen Tip:  Cinnamon is a beautiful ally to call on during colder months or whenever your energy feels scattered. It grounds, comforts, and gently rekindles your inner fire.

Tea Time for Healing – Sweet Fire Tea

Cinnamon makes a beautifully aromatic tea that warms the body from the inside out.

Sweet Fire Tea
  • 1 cinnamon stick (or 1 tsp ground)

  • A small slice of ginger (optional for extra warmth)

  • A few cardamom pods or a pinch of black pepper (optional)

  • Hot water

How to make it:
  1. Simmer cinnamon gently for 10 minutes (a stick works best).

  2. Add optional spices if desired, then strain into your cup.

  3. Sweeten with honey if you wish and sip slowly.

Why it helps: Cinnamon supports digestion, helps balance blood sugar levels, improves circulation, and can gently lift your mood. It’s the perfect afternoon or after-meal ritual.

Kitchen Pharmacy – Everyday Magic in Your Meals

Cinnamon is such an easy spice to work with and a little goes a long way.

Simple ways to use cinnamon:
  • Sprinkle on porridge, oats, or yoghurt for natural sweetness.

  • Add to baked goods or hot drinks like chai or cacao.

  • Stir into warm stews or tagines for a subtle depth of flavour.

  • Make cinnamon honey — infuse a stick in a jar of raw honey for a daily spoonful of comfort.

You could sprinkle cinnamon to a simple oat bowl with apples and walnuts - grounding, nourishing, and gently stimulating.

What I Eat in a Day – Energy & Balance

Here’s how cinnamon can flow through your day:

  • Morning: Warm lemon and cinnamon water to gently awaken the body.

  • Breakfast: Apple cinnamon oat bowl with walnuts and a drizzle of cinnamon honey.

  • Afternoon: Sweet Fire Tea — grounding and uplifting.

  • Evening: A cinnamon-spiced lentil stew with a hint of cardamom.

Cinnamon brings a sense of soft fire, warmth that doesn’t overwhelm, but steadies and comforts.

Gut Feelings – Tuning In to Your Second Brain

Cinnamon has a long history as a digestive aid. Its warming properties help stimulate digestion, ease bloating, and may support healthy blood sugar balance, which plays a big role in mood regulation and steady energy.

Why it matters:
  • Balanced blood sugar means fewer mood crashes and energy dips.

  • Warming herbs/spices support circulation and help the gut relax and function optimally.

  • Grounding flavours can bring a sense of safety and ease.

Mini Practice: Place one hand over your lower belly. Breathe deeply and imagine a warm ember glowing gently there. Let it spread through your core - soft, steady, strong.

Reflection – Integration & Intuition

As you work with cinnamon today, reflect softly:

How does this gentle warmth feel in your body?  Did you notice your energy or mood becoming steadier?  Where could you invite more sweet fire into your life?

The beauty of cinnamon is in its simplicity a quiet warmth, gentle grounding, and deep comfort.

Final Thoughts

Cinnamon reminds us that healing doesn’t have to be loud or grand. Sometimes it’s found in a simple cup, a warm bowl, or a quiet breath.

“Tend the fire in your belly, and it will light your way forward.”

Sending Light and Love, 💗🧚‍♀️💜
