Food as Medicine — Day 2: Ginger, The Fiery Root

Hello my beautiful Wildings

Welcome to Day 2 of our Food as Medicine series, where we continue to explore how simple herbs and spices can support your body, mind, and energy in the most natural, soulful ways.

Today’s plant ally is one of my personal favourites, a root with ancient healing wisdom, a fiery kick, and a big warm hug for your gut. Meet Ginger

Herb or Spice of the Day - Ginger

Ginger has been used in traditional medicine for centuries, from Chinese and Ayurvedic practices to European folk remedies. It’s a true warming herb, often called a circulatory stimulant and digestive friend.

Key Benefits:
  • Physical: Supports digestion, reduces nausea, boosts circulation, eases inflammation, helps immunity.

  • Emotional/Mental: Uplifting, energising, gently stimulating. Perfect when energy feels sluggish.

  • Energetic: Linked to the solar plexus and root chakras, grounding yet activating, sparking inner fire and confidence.

Wild Queen Tip: Ginger is a brilliant herb to lean on when you need warmth, physically or emotionally. It’s like lighting a small, steady fire in your belly.

Tea Time for Healing – Warming Ginger Zest Tea

Ginger makes a gorgeous, soul-warming tea. It’s simple, fast, and perfect for supporting your digestion and circulation.

Warming Ginger Zest Tea
  • 1–2 tsp freshly grated ginger (or 1 tsp dried)

  • Juice of ½ lemon

  • Optional: honey or maple syrup

  • Optional: pinch of cayenne for extra fire

How to make it:
  1. Simmer ginger gently in hot water for 5–7 minutes.

  2. Strain into your favourite cup.

  3. Add lemon and honey.

  4. Take a deep breath, and let the fiery steam clear the cobwebs from your mind.

Why it helps: Ginger tea is known to stimulate digestion, ease bloating, support the immune system, and give a lovely natural energy boost.

Kitchen Pharmacy – Everyday Magic in Your Meals

Ginger is incredibly versatile in the kitchen. Its bright heat lifts both savoury and sweet dishes, and a little goes a long way.

Simple ways to use ginger:
  • Add freshly grated ginger to stir-fries, soups, curries, or salad dressings.

  • Mix into warm lemon water in the morning to wake up your digestive system.

  • Combine with honey and lemon as a homemade throat and immunity tonic.

You could make a simple ginger and miso broth - light, comforting, and full of gentle fire. It’s perfect for those cooler, slower mornings when you need a little spark.

Ideas on what you could eat in a Day – Energy & Balance

Here’s how ginger can flow through your day, a gentle reminder that one herb/spice can infuse meals with both flavour and function.

  • Morning: Warm lemon and ginger water to wake up my digestion.

  • Lunch: Stir-fry with ginger, garlic, greens, and tofu for a fresh, bright lift.

  • Afternoon: Warming Ginger Zest Tea with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

  • Evening: Ginger miso broth with rice noodles and veggies, soothing and grounding.

Ginger works beautifully to support your energy without overstimulating, it’s fiery but balanced.

Gut Feelings – Tuning In to Your Second Brain

Ginger has long been known as a digestive powerhouse. It helps stimulate digestive juices, ease bloating and nausea, and support a healthy gut-brain connection.

Why it matters:
  • A calm, supported gut helps the nervous system regulate more easily.

  • Warmth in the digestive tract can ease emotional tension stored in the belly.

  • Good digestion = clearer energy and a more grounded mood.

Mini Practice: Place your hands over your belly. Breathe deeply, feeling the warmth from within. Let your breath and your gut fall into a soft, steady rhythm.

Reflection – Integration & Intuition

As you weave ginger into your day, take a moment to notice:

How does your body respond to this fiery warmth?  Did you feel more awake, energised, or grounded? Where might a little extra heat support your flow right now?

Building a daily relationship with these herbs/spices allows your body to teach you what it needs. Ginger speaks the language of warmth, courage, and clarity.

Final Thoughts

Ginger is one of those herbs that’s both practical and powerful. It supports your gut, boosts circulation, lifts your mood, and gently stokes your inner fire.

“A little fire in the belly can light up your whole world.”

Sending Light and Love, 💗🧚‍♀️💜
